The "firing" for the ignition is the same on ALL the K series engines.

Couldn't a guy wire up a generic tach that would register on our Cubs and then take the face off and print/install a new label so it "reads" correctly? For example (accurate numbers are not about to be recited), a tach for a V6 would read 1/3 of what our engines are actually at. So, take the face off, print a new label that's adjusted for the 1/3 difference, and violla; a single cylinder tach. K.I.S.S., right?

Yea, it's an option that I've thought about. I know there are others on this site that would love to find a tach that was plug and plug. Just tying to help others out and contribute the best I can. I think I may have found one. I'm going to buy it and see what I can do with it.

This one is supposed to work for a 1 to 10 cylinder, it's 2 1/16" and $56.99 with free shipping.

I ordered this one to see if it works on our cubs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/291162356660...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I also ordered a couple of really inexpensive tachs that I am going to see if I can modify them to work on a one cylinder engine with a coil, like on a Kohler. All that's needed, is to change a resister value for the pulse signal. Might take a while, but I'll let you all know how it works out. If it does work, it would be only $25 or $30 for a tach. I had gotten one of those digitals, like the Tiny Tach, but I don't like it. Just seems to lag behind the RPM's.

It looks promising....I wish they had one like that down to 4,000rpm. Let me know how it works for you.

I would have liked if it was 4000 too, but sometimes you have to take what you can get. I should be getting it soon, then I'll post if it works as soon as I get to try it. I'm still searching for others.

It's backward, I think. I used a diagnostic tach when I tuned up my 321, lowest scale was 4 cyl and I had to multiply the reading times four to get the right number. So when setting high rpm 34-3600 (I forget which) I was reading 850-900 rpm. Idle speed I didn't bother with, played it by ear, too hard to read. I have something similar to this, without the cyl number switch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/2614942...lpid=82&chn=ps

According to the internet, where All Things Are True, you need a universal Diesel marine tachometer, as do I. Found this: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic...r-onan-kohler/

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
