Default 2072 governor

Ok guys, my 2072 with a mag 20 won't idle down. I can make it idle down by moving the governor arm so my throttle is against the slow idle stop. Other than this issue the engine runs good, just not real familiar with the mag engine. Does this mean the governor gear is shot? Is this a nightmare to replace?

if the governor was shot it would really run fast and probably would have parted company with the rods. I'd suggest following the governor adjustment procedure, verify the spring is hooked up correctly.

also check you throttle cable adjustment to make sure it has enough movement to return it to idle

On my 1872 (I assume they are at least similar), the exhaust shroud has has an indention that allows for movement of the governor arm. When installing the shroud, if I don't make sure it is as far forward as it will go, the arm hits against it, not allowing it to get to idle position. Maybe yours is the same and has moved from vibration (or you didn't push it forward when installing).

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
