I'd seriously consider that. That is one sweet looking 2284. I'd try to get it for $2500 figuring I would spend $250-300 for a brace kit and I'd re-seal the rear end. 2284 is the last of the Supers.

He responded saying that it was completely taken apart and rebuilt. He provided his name and phone number and offered to explain everything that's been done to it. I think I'll call him tonight even though I may not understand all that he tells me, but I'll act like it.

If you have the cash and it was done right, I can't recommend the 2284 enough. Top of the line in its time and still a damn good machine. I love mine, can you tell?

Edit: Although I will say for $2700 it better be what he says it is. I just have a problem paying that much but if it's done right, it'd be worth it.

I talked with him this evening via a phone call.
He told me that he removed the back plate and cleaned the hydro unit, new gasket and filter and hytran.
He said that there were no leaks on the axle seals so he didn't replace them. So much for completely tearing it down!!
Oh well, he is 75 years old.
He had the deck sand blasted and powder coated with the correct Cub color. New middle spindle and pulley, the outside ones work good. New blades and belts, the deck is awesome and mows very well. Like new he says.

He took the 22 hp apart and honed the cylinder and replaced the rings and valves and had the heads machined for a good fit. Replaced both crank oil seals and the bearings were in good shape.

Removed the driveshaft, cleaned and greased it, the boots were in good shape. All that work I would have replaced the boots.
Removed the front axle, cleaned, greased and replaced the pivot pin. The power steering and hyd lift works great. It runs and mows as it should.

He invited me over to drive and mow with it.

No leaks, drips or errors.

I have an 1864 with a 54" deck and it's super. I have found more than one 1864 within a couple hours drive ranging from $1,000-$1,500.
Is this 2284 as it sits in the picture, as nice as it looks, worth a $1,000 more than an 1864?

I'm thinking for that money i should be getting front hydraulic ports for a blade.

It is worth (functionally) WAY more than the difference,,,

Do not expect to find a dual hydraulic machine, they are much rarer,,,

I had a dual hydraulic, and never plugged into the ports,,,,

That extra hole in the front is a great location for an oil drain,,,

It's pretty but from what you said he did and what he didn't do if it was me $2000.00 is as high as I would go based on the info you have provided.
