More than likely, it's a replacement, because the engine is black.

Ok. Even though I like tractors in original condition better, this looks like a nice one so I think I'll still take a peek at it. Thanks again Allen.

I would still go look at it. My 102 had a black engine but it was the original. The PO rebuilt it and painted it black himself. You never know, the 100 might be the same way.

Anytime Bob! I agree with you, I'd still go look at it.

I agree with Allen, it will definitely grow on you. Probably has a replacement engine. Based on the exhaust exit, and air cleaner it looks to be a K241. My 127 has a replacement k301 manufactured in 1994, and other than being black, its an exact replacement. Look for the Kohler tag near the lower-left side of the blower housing, or if its missing or painted over you might be able to still see the chrome decal on top of the blower housing under the tank area.

Check it over good when you go to look at it. Check the clutch, gear shift movement, leaks on the tranny, cracks on the frame near the front of the engine, repairs to the frame by previous owners, extra holes drilled in the sheet metal and frame, etc. Any of these can either kill the sale (if its really bad) or help you chew the price down if necessary.

Good luck,

Jeff (teet)

Thanks for the good advice! I'm going to look at a CC lawn sweeper in the same part of the state tomorrow. I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
