Default Kohler 12 hp Air Cleaner questions

In my rebuild I am curious if there is suppose to be a gasket or rubber seal
between the cover and back plate?( #5 and # 7) on the diagram. I know I have the correct filter 1.81" tall
but It leaves a 1/4" -3/8" gap all around, Is that for Actual air intake or should it get all of its air thru the duct into the blower housing?

Look at this parts diagram #5 and # 7 It doesnt show anything

http://www.partstree.com/parts/cub-c...-2-horsepower/

Thanks for your time
David

Thank you. Its apparently not on the partstree site.
The previous owner probly tossed it. I'll have to add that to
My ever growing list of items still needed!
It just doesnt end, each little phase of this project opens
Another can of worms, but its suppose to be fun right?
Thanks again
David

Actually it is on the diagram you posted earlier.
It is just very poorly represented on the diagram.

Default gasket

I think it was more for keeping it from rattling than any thing.
Now I could be mistaken but it would serve no other purpose.
it is on the outside of the filter what else would it do.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
