Default Model Number from VIN

The VIN on my old tractor is 2050660U580584 - anyone know how to find out the model number from the VIN?

205 = Factory Code for Garden Tractor
0660 = Factory Code for 1450
U = Made in the USA
580584 = the sequential serial number

OK, for a complete newb -- when I see one in the junkyard, is there a way to identify it? Or would I need to post a picture on this site?

Not often, but occasionally I come across one. Most recently, I found one in the recycling yard - frame, hood, rear axle. Have no idea how to identify it to see if anyone would want parts. Didn't have a camera with me at the time, either.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks! I found another site that has serial numbers going back to 1961. If it is accurate, this would be a good resource and pretty easy to print & toss in the glove box.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
