Default Diesel 1200?

I've got a 1200 my dad found with a stuck motor. I got it free and running replaced the clutch and drive shaft with a heavy duty one (old one was shot) mowed 3/4 of the yard and threw a rod. I have a 10hp chinese diesel on my homemade log splitter. Has anyone tried putting one on a QL before. I've seen videos of one on a narrow frame that the guy had to heavily modify the frame on. I think it might fit between the frame but I am worried about the height of the crank. With a clutch drive you can't put in U-joints like the guy with the narrow frame did (his was a hydro). Anyone try this before?

I don't know of anyone off hand. Anything is possible with enough money and time! Lol I'd thought about it too at one time. If it's just a thrown Rod the crank may be good. It would be tons cheaper to rebuild the k301 than try and mod, and fabricate everything to get the 10 horse diesel to fit. If you're dead set on doing it, do some measuring first. A hydro tractor would make things simpler too.

Thats what I will end up doing as the grass is still growing. I did take some measurements and the crank is 5 in high on the kohler and 6 in on the diesel because of where the front axle is you couldnt just drop the bottom of the frame down unless you moved the front axle When I get the motor off I will do some more measuring I need to check the rod journal on the crank for damage to see how much damage has been done. That diesel sure does run good though pull and a half and she fired right up after sitting since last november. I will get some pictures on here when I tear it all apart again to show the fitment issues

Before you decide to move that front axle, consider what implements you use with the tractor and how the axle could interfere with them locking onand where the pulley will be if you plan to use the engine to drive anything other than moving the tractor Engine rotation matters. I would imagine you have to put the engine in "backwards" (flywheel to the back) unless your china engine is really odd. Shifting the axle forward will increase your turn radius.

I got an idea last night. set the engine in on the existing mounts then fabricate a mounting bracket for the clutch hanger thats an inch taller at the rear of the locking ring for the clutch spring mount a pillow block bearing from there make a drive shaft with U-joints to connect to the trans. My clutch lever is an extended length one so this would just move it back up where the stock one was. Best part this could be put back if need be. And yes it would drive off the flywheel end for correct rotation and if it affected mounting/running attachments I wouldn't even consider it as this is a working tractor. I will have a much better idea when I get the blown motor off I just need some time.

got the blown motor off and sat the diesel down on the frame the flywheel cover hits as do the oil fill and throttle linkage it would take some major cutting to make it fit which I just can't cut up a cub like that looks like I will be swapping the motor from my 125 in The good news is the crank from the blown motor looks ok

worst case it will need turned not in a rush as i have a motor to swap in the 125's hydro needs some seals i'm tired of dumping hytran in it
