I bought this when I was doing the engine mount mod on my 1200.
Really enjoyed using it. Got it from Northern when it was on sale for $499
then had a $50 off coupon. I've been playing with it and I can put down a fairly decent bead. Using the flux core wire it does create alot of splatter.
I've heard praises by everyone about how clean the process is using the Argon
mix setup. I've been scouting around and my gosh the cylinders are Expensive.
I know the small ones probably dont last that long, but for me its the way to go. None of the welding supply stores rent the small one.
Harbor Freight has a small bottle for $89.
Thats the best price I've found. Some of the Older reviewers said they had trouble having it filled due to lack of DOT markings stamped on the bottle.
Newer reviews have all been Positve. What exactly am I looking for to be stamped on it?

I've looked at Craigslist too, Most of them want 200-$300

You should be able to purchase one from you local wlding store filled, and be on an exchange program. When your bottle is empty, take it in and exchange it for a new one. Sure the upfront cost is a little more but the value in that is that they keep up on the bottle maintenance (testing). For me that's food for thought with a 2000psi cylinder. Last time I exchanged or wasn't more than $60 and I have a mid size 75/25 (40cu/ft?, can't remember)

I have a small bottle I use for my welder and it lasts longer than I expected. It took 2 bottles for all of the welding on my dump trailer. I use the bottle exchange program at TSC. It is most convenient for me since there is a store about 1/2 mile from my job. I did have to buy the bottle initially, and it's around $25 to exchange for a full bottle. If you think you may want a larger bottle at some point, TSC won't allow you to exchange for a larger bottle and pay the price difference. They told me I'd have to pay full price for the larger bottle.

I too bought the $120ish dollar small bottle from TSC. It has lasted quite a while just doing small projects here and there. I havent had to replace it but I have several TSC stores in the area. It seems much more economical for a hobby welder than buying or renting a giant tank.
