Default Kohler 10hp Valve seat came out
Guys this is really crazy, to me. Need some help from You Kohler guru's. Was gonna take my 100 out today for a spin around the yard, It turned over like always. Then started free spinning fast. No start. Pulled plug, no compression. Pulled the head off and The Exhaust valve was stuck open, The valve seat had popped up/out and held the valve open. I didn't think to take a picture. I took the carb, and side breather cover off, and with a wooden dowel, compress the spring enough to raise the valve and put the seat back into place. What in the heck is wrong? This motor was rebuilt about 2- 3 years ago, bored .020 over, the piston and cylinder walls look great. Motor has 30 hours or less on it. Now what? if I put it back together, whats to keep it from happening again?

It will happen again. Someone has installed a seat, and it came out. It happens. You will have to have a machine shop repair it. Most likely with a new seat.

Jonathon, I'm guessing its common the replace a seat when rebuilding. What normally keeps it in place? Tight fit-pressed in?

When the original seat can't be machined/ground anymore it's common to replace it, yes. It's a press fit but there are different ways to make it stay in. Unfortunately sometimes they fall out.
