Engine Swap
I have a 122 and a 128 and both have the same engine. The 128s engine is blowing smoke and is starting to knock. I want to swap the engines and sell the 122. My question is, are there any special tools I would need to pull the two engines, or anything that is a mandatory replacement when swapping the engines? Also the 122 has a creeper drive, can I move it over to the 128 too and is it hard to do, I know I will have to modify the drive shaft. These are my first cubs eventually want to refurbish the 128.

Welcome to OCC.
No real special tools to swap engines, pretty easy actually. The coil mounts in different places on the two blower housings, so it's best to change them. Depending on the style, you could run into problems with the muffler heat shields being different and depending on spark plug location they may not swap from one to another The handle on the creeper is different between WF and NF tractors. If you move the creeper to the WF (and I'm not saying you shouldn't) the WF drive shaft should have a mark on it as to where to cut it off. The problem will be; you will then need a longer shaft for the 122. Some of the other guys can probably think of other things that I have overlooked.

As for the engine swap you really don't need any special tool, while you have it apart I'd check all the clutch components. The shifter handle for the 122 is different than the handle for the 128, member Jeff in PA makes the proper handle to switch it over.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
