782D with problems
I recently picked up a 782D, see if you have any thoughts on a problem with 782D. The guy told me when I bought, it does not like to start back after running for 15 minutes or so. I have run 20, and 30 minutes still does it not wanting to start back. I tighten up the fan belt it was a little loose, no help. Any thoughts ?

782D problems
Are you saying the tractor will run and drive for 20 to 30 minutes then quit.
Then the engine will not restart? Will the engine crank over? Will the electric fuel pump run? Is there fuel in the glass filter bowl? |

You need to be more descriptive of the problem. I think you are saying that after running for a short time, it will not start after shutting it off. If this is the case, is it turning over slowly or intermittently?
Or is it actually dying while running for a short time and won't start back up? |

Quote:
The diesels circulate a lot of fuel. Crud floating in the fuel would plug the pick up filter in the tank. After the motor was off for a while, the debris would separate from the pick up filter and allow fuel to flow again and the motor would run a short time again. Pete |

Don't know if this is relevant?
Worked on an Oliver super "88" diesel some years back for a friend, ----well maybe 30+ years. It would start fine when cold and work all day, but don't shut it off, or you had to use Either to start it. A new set of pistons/ rings/sleeves cured that problem. I do know she was still working fine 6 years ago when sold. Does your cub-bota have excessive blow-by out the crankcase breather, and/or high hours? If so, that would be a sign she is "tired" other wise maybe a valve adjustment is needed? Is the battery up to par? |

How does it crank when cold and when hot? It could be a lot of things so the more info you give us the better we can help you. Is this the one that just sold real cheap and if so that was a smokin deal and my buddy Tommy was next in line.

Does it have a fuel shut off solenoid? If not it could be a fuel pump. Have you tried to see if any fuel is coming out of the injection lines after its hot and cranking?

I have a 1782 Diesel that when warm will only start with the throttle at idle or it bucks back against the starter when turning over. When cold it starts better at half throttle.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
