First off, Thanks Frank for the wiring diagram!!!!

After messing with the Cub for a few hours tonight, I'm wondering if I also have a bad relay?

Right after installing new PTO switch, I had power on the back. Put everything back together and nothing ...no power at all on the PTO switch.

Started tracing/marking back of ignition switch. The Acc was the only terminal with power in Run position. This must be what feeds the relay terminal with power? Also had power in a black and brown (purple?) wire when PTO switch is in start position. I never have any terminal of the relay with power out when PTO switch returns to the run position.

Sooo, I think I'm going to get a new relay?

Your pto switch sends power directly to the pto to start it, then when you release the switch to run the power is fed through the relay. The holding current for the relay comes from the pto switch, but it passes through the seat switch and reverse relay (I'm guessing, I can't read the schematic). If your not sitting in the seat or the hydro lever is in reverse it will shut off because of the safety switches, not necessarily a bad relay. These switches can get dirty/corroded and have bad connections. Make sure you have constant power to the relay coil before you throw a relay at it.

I'd verify if the seat switch and reverse switch is good first but my identical problem was the relay.

Update! I have the tractor running! Thanks to everyone for their help, especially Frank for sending me not only a wiring diagram, but also a wiring diagram with highlights of the circuit routes!

I ran the cub on and off all day pulling a section of old field drag. After installing the new PTO switch, the starter engaged on the first try- every time!

I also got the front and rear PTO's working in the shop, but they still need to be field tested, hopefully later this week. The relay appears to be fine. As some suggested, I think I had a combination of worn/ "working sometime" safety switches causing my headaches.

At any rate, I am thrilled to have the old girl pulling her weight around here again! Thanks to all!!!
