1912 info
I might be going tomorrow to look at a 1912 with a 50" deck, the tractor looks to be in decent shape and the mower deck is about average. The guy told me that it runs but it runs rough, I don't know anything about the Onan engines so I'm hoping some of you can school me on some of the more common issues with the engine and if these engines are reliable. Thanks.

Tim, 1912's are very hard to find and if the price is right, go for it. It prolly has the B48G engine. As you know they are the most expensive to repair but was one of the best air cooled engines ever put into a Cub....my opinion. Look over on WFM and see the money those rich boys spend on repairing those old Onans rather then drop one of todays repowers in it. Nothing has the sound and power as a good running gas gulping Onan. These engines did have issues with weak rods, valve seats & carb/intake problems but I would definitely look at it and if you're not interested let one of us know. IIRC the front pto's bring around $300 used. Good luck and bring us some pics.

Same engine as 982? 19.9? Seeing it and the 1914. Always learning something here. Looks cool hope you get it, judging by the prices I'm seeing it seems cheap at 5 bills

Is it near Johnstown? That's where I grew up, got tired of snow and moved south.

The 1912/1914 DID have the same B48G engine as found in the 982.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
