Todd,

My original is a fairly late one built in 63.. it has the dry element..... I have heard before that they figured out the oil bath air cleaners were not doing the job and dirt was getting thru.. either IH or Kohler specified that they be changed to dry filters.. Not sure if this story is true or not.. but the original owner of my original swears it came with the dry filter..

Maybe Lew or somebody else has some better or more concrete info

To the best of my knowledge all Originals came with the oil bath air cleaner. I have had a couple late '63's and they all had the oil bath on them. The dry filter came starting with the model 70.

That was my thought as well.
I know I don't have another carb that's not being used, and hate to keep sinking more $$$$$ into this thing. But I've come this far and hate to do it half as#$%.

I know the feeling Todd, I would be almost embarrassed to say how much $$$$ I've had into a couple of my O's and feel the same way about trying to do things complete even though it usually costs more. Everything so far looks great!!

I was informed this afternoon that a dry element air filtration system was offered in the later model originals. Don't do me no good being mine is a mid year 61.

Well today I got the fluids in. 3 1/2 quarts of Hy-Tran and 1 1/2 quarts of Kohler 30W, No leaks.

Let the haters start... I'm using the dry element air filter for now because the oil bath won't work with this carb. Specifically the choke. So for now I'm going this route.

Checked to make sure I had a good ground from the front to the back. Rear light works, as well as the front plugs. Also tried turning the tractor over and that worked well, even had spark at the plug

So all that's left is to add fuel, and we should be good to go

Im afraid if I got that far I woulda had to put a splash of fuel in and heard it pop at least once!!

I wouldn't worry one bit about the air cleaner... its your tractor! Have it like you prefer!
