1250 transaxle w pump same as 1862?
It would take me forever to look up part numbers to see if this is a direct bolt up. I'm hoping someone has the answer, are all the parts a direct replacement for a 1862 transaxle? Axles, tubes, housing, pump and all the guts, I have an 1862 that the p.o. pulled the internals for a puller so I'm looking to put it back together.

Thanks, J mech . If anybody knows of a thread or a forum to get the info on pumps and rear end Identification and some general info, I could sure use some direction to gain some info in that area. Tractor data just says hydrostatic, parts tree gives plenty of part numbers but not a manufacturer, theres no tag on the 1862 rear housing or pump, the pump in my 1863 looks different but theres no tags anywhere on there that I can see. I'm in the dark

I don't really know what it is you are looking for. There are basically 3 unit's that were used. Sundstrand and Hydrogear were the two hydrostat manufacturers. The early pumps/rears were Sundstrand hydros with a cast iron housing and helical cut ring and pinions. The later unit's were Sundstrand hydros with an aluminum housing and straight cut ring and pinion. Then there were some odd ball unit's like the 1863 and 1440 that had Hydrogear hydrostats and the same basic aluminum rear end. You can really get all this info from the parts books..... yes, you have to look it all up and compare part numbers. It takes a lot of time. That's how anyone who knows finds out. I've literally spent days comparing part numbers before. There is tons of info here on this site in the tech section. Parts books, service manual, I think we even have a copy of the actual Sundstrand service manual. If not, you can find it on the net. You just need to sort through it and find what you are looking for, or ask a specific question.

That's a good start that gives me some more info. I have quit a few hours in research but I and others don't have multiple years of knowledge, I just want to start a conversation and gain knowledge after all isn't that what this forum is partly about? As I mentioned if I knew were to find identification numbers on castings that would be a piece of valuable info for me and other people that want to learn more about them. For others that are following this thread I have found a good place that gives some really good info on applications through one of the sponsors, Cub Cadet Warehouse along with good prices

All of these little tidbits are not only interesting, they are entertaining.
Here I thought the 1863 I just bought was the same as the 1864 I've had for some time, minus power steering. There is that little manual bypass lever on the driveshaft cover of the 1863 that the 1864 doesn't have... Like J-Mech said, "Then there were some odd ball unit's like the 1863 and 1440 that had Hydrogear hydrostats and the same basic aluminum rear end"... Keep it up guys! PeterJ

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
