Tis the season for restores and upgrades 1863 mods
Like a few other I have started a restore/ up grade project. I have a 1863 that doesn't have power steering or dual hydraulics which I would like to have. I also have a 1862 parts tractor that I bought after the po stripped the rear axle and tubes and pig "for a puller". Its my plan To start with the 1862 stripped down frame power wash it, prep and paint it. I then plan to reinstall the power steering and add the dual hydraulics then pull the 1863 out of service to pull the rear end so I can take what ever parts I need to rebuild the 1862 rear end. So far that's the plan time will tell I it changes much. Sorry about the picture being sideways they show as being right on my end I'm sure it irritates you as much as me.

What is left of the 1862 rear? Do you still have the hydro pump?

Best way to start, with a bare frame. Clean and paint as you go and you'll have a nice tractor. Can't wait to follow the progress!

I agree, I want it to look like new. If only it wasn't too cold to get started on the pressure washing

cub yellow paint?
Well the weather finally broke and it got up to 40 deg yesterday so I made it out to pressure wash the frame and the dash tower. Today I started to sand and blend the rough and bare rusty spots, that's a slow process for sure. It doesn't look a whole lot better yet so its not picture worthy after I pint it will be I'm going to hf tomorrow to get some soda blasting supplies to hit all the tight spots that you cant get with sanding disks and the like. With out going full out professional, I'm looking for some tips on the paints others have used and got a good color match for the cub yellow.

Thing is if your just "hit all the tight spots" you'll still have to sand to blend the bare metal with the painted areas in and around those tight areas... I really liked the federal yellow from my case IH dealer, and the Omni paint I used for the white. Looking forward to you progress reports.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
