Newbie 7200 diesel
I am new to the forum and have been looking for info because I believe you can fix just about any thing if you do your leg wok on the web. Our local land trust has a 7200 diesel 4x4 with manual transmission. I am charged with keeping it running. The front drive shaft and shield keep falling off and getting all beat up and clogged with grass. Does any one know how I can fix it. I can fabricate and weld. I would rather improve it than putting the say expensive and flimsy shield back on. What forums should I be looking at any other sights

Boatn,
I think this sight is more geared towards the garden tractor/mower type equipment. However, you state the mower drive shaft falls off and beats the shield. I suspect that if you figure out why the drive shaft is falling off, this would remedy your sheild being battered. 1st, how is the drive shaft being held on? Does it have a spring-loaded locking collar, or pin, that locks it securely onto the PTO drive, and are these components worn? This shaft must lock onto the the PTO drive to prevent it from flying off and hurting something or someone. 2nd, you may be able to contact your local Cud dealer and run it by them...there may be a service bulletin on your failure mode that explains the failure and cure. 3rd, you say it clogs with grass; are the blades sharp, the underside of the deck clean and how high is the grass you are cutting. If your Cub has the belly mower, it's a mower and not a brush/high grass cutter and you could be putting strain on the deck, drive shaft and PTO that it was not designed for. Let us know how you make out.
