Default Balance gear removal

I'm rebuilding a K-321 for my sons tractor now, the block is at the machine shop. It seems like everybody is all for removing the balance gears, if so what else needs to be done to do that? How bad will it vibrate, he's going to be doing light pulling with this tractor? I'd hate to invest time and money into this and then destroy it after a few pulls. I did notice the motor got a little noisey once it warmed up, and both the gears were loose upon inspection.

Removing the balance gears is a must. It's really easy to do..... you just don't put them back in.

Will you notice a difference...... not likely.

I have a k321 I took them out of. Mowed one summer with it and I couldn't tell any difference in it and my 12 horse. I wouldn't worry about it.

Kirk makes plates the attatch to the crankshaft if balance gears are removed
I know nothing about them but sounded interesting

That's interesting, I looked it up. But two things. How do you know for sure that it's not going to be too much weight and screw things up or not enough to make any difference? Also I'm not sold on bolting that to the crank. I know the rod us, but still I don't care how much loc-tite or torquing you do I'd be afraid of it coming off.

I have the same concerns. Maybe they would let us test them for free?

It's not a concern. They bolt weights to crankshafts all the time. Nothing new.

you should see how much weight we weld to the counter weights when we balance them. I'm not sold on the weight kit that Kirk sells. when you balance a engine you need weights of all rotating pieces , then you take a certain percentage and add it to the balance weights . Kohler don't do a very good job balancing so it does get it closer but there is a bit more to balancing than just a kit

Yeah Don if it was welded on and then balanced then I'd be ok with it. The kit seemed a little to easy of a fix to me. That's my opinion.
