Default What is a reasonable offer for an IH 982?

Here's the description. Assuming that trans. mounts, frame and driveline are ok and the engine turns over without any bad noises, what should I offer? What are really nice 982's going for now? It does not have front outlets and I can't see dual pedals in the picture. Looks like it needs a seat and a bath. Can't see the front or left side. It says it runs good, but not in a while. I'm guessing they can't prove the runs good part even if I take a battery with me.

Here's their description and picture:
1977? international lawn mower. Good shape runs good lots of spare parts. 3 point arms have never been used, no pto. 54 and 42 inch decks. Classic mower, hydrostatic transmission good ,Owen motor goof. Turning brakes ,Hydraulic deck lift, four chrome hub caps good shape. Has not ran in a while will need battey and tlc. Great classic mower. More a fixer uperror than a mowing beast. Almost 40 year's old .

2 years ago I paid $600 for mine. Had not ran in Lord only knows when,( a machinery jockey took it in on trade--not running), No turning brakes, 3pt, no rear PTO, no front hydraulics, 60" Haban, seat was fair, air cleaner was off of it, has a bullet hole in sheet metal, sat outside for a mighty long time, some of my tires needed tubes (all appeared to be original given their deterioration).

Well they aren't making them anymore. Whatever your willing to give. I wouldn't go over $800 but I'd agree on a price a try to get it started first. Say $600-$700 running $350-4 not.

It's a crap shoot, really.
Once you get it, it could turn into a real money pit.
There's probably a reason it's where it is and in the shape it's in.
And you are probably gong to have to discern that for yourself.....
After the fact.....when it's in your hands!
Good luck!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
