It's a myth that the PTO's are expensive to rebuild. You just have to know where to find parts. They are no more expensive to go through than replacing an electric one on a CC.
OK, where are you getting PTO parts? The only one I ever went into was about 10 years ago and it was going to cost so much to fix it the guy decided to leave it broke and sell it as is. The only place I knew of to get parts was Case-IH, I'm thinking it was close to $500 for everything we were going to need? Maybe there are aftermarket suppliers now?

LOL. Yes, there is aftermarket.

Here are two quick ones. Like I said, if you need a shaft, clutch pack and carrier, it can get upwards of $400. But if it's just a kit, or a bearing, then it isn't bad. Complete assembly is $398. These aren't the only places for parts either, just ones that are quick to find. I dunno, I work on a lot of tractors... I don't think $400 is bad at all.

I guess the definition of "expensive" parts is the difference here. Don't know if anybody had aftermarket 10 years ago for these.

Strange most of you guys value these at around $1500 and a quick search on Craigslist here showed 2 in the $3,000 price range. With anything, I imagine location is a big factor. Seems everything costs more here!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
