That's most of it. Has to be because it's not like they are rare, or the motors are so expensive. Tractor itself without a motor isn't worth much, and you can buy a motor for under a grand. It's all about what people are willing to pay. I know several people (some members, some not) who buy diesel cubs under $1500. I know someone who got a running 782D a couple years ago for under $1000. It's all about waiting and paying the right price. They reason they list so high, is because people will pay it. I guess the only other reason is replacement cost. But we all know that if they were selling the same cubs we collect now for new price they would be unaffordable for most of us. All about the cool factor.....

I paid $1550.00 for this;
http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41407 (1) year only tractor, some say it is one of the more "collectable" of the diesels. I have another few hundred into upgrading the starter / alternator/ driveshaft / and rear end braces. Changing the fuel lines and doing just general maintenance to it. Diesels are not cheap, but I really like this one a lot. |

There are lots of Kubota diesels running around that were put in lots of other machines. Gen sets, Ransoms, Jacobsons and others. I shy away from refer diesels because they are built for Thermo-King. Hard to get parts for them when they are out of their unit. Most of those are Yanmar.

My opinion $2000 for a non super diesel is too much.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
