Newb to IH Cubs
I've always liked the looks of these lawn tractors. 20 years ago, I got married, had a new place and sowed a big yard. The next spring, I bought a 2155 mad cub. It's been and still is a very good mower. For the past couple of years, I've been researching the older cubs and looking around to buy one. There's been one on Craigslist and I finally made the hour and half long ride to check it out. Its a 147 with electric lift and 46" deck. Starts up nice with no smoke and deck mowed smooth with hardly any vibration. Tires are in good shape. The lift doesn't work. According to the seller, it has a switch rigged to it and if you straight wire it it works. It was dark so I didn't fool with it. It needs paint but still looks pretty good. All decals are still nice. Even the sticker where it was bought - $650.
I thinks it's a pretty good deal. I would like to restore it and add hydraulic pump with 3 point hitch. And a front loader. Maybe a small backhoe for the back. I'm a welder so I can fab everything. I'm pretty excited about it. Ive restored a few tractors but this will be my first cub. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
