How long should I expect it to last
I have a LT1024 cub with a failing PTO clutch (has been failing for about 4 years now...see previous posts). I am thinking about finally replacing it, but was wondering how long do LT1024 usually last? Mine is almost 12 years old and has about 550 hrs on it. I had the drive belt and engine bearing replaced about 3 years ago. Other than that nothing except general maintenance (oil and plugs). I even have the original deck belt and tires on it.
The clutch is ~$180. Should I put another $180 into it or just drive it until this clutch dies and get a new mower. I hate to replace the clutch if I can only realistically get another year or 2 out of this machine. I'd rather put the money into another new machine. The mower runs great no issues at all except the clutch is going (will not reengage the blades after it heats up ~30 min of run time). |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
