Oil Line routing, 1872
Hello. I am reassembling a M18 on an 1872. I marked the lines when I took them off ("A" line to the bottom port on the engine), but when I looked at the service manual when putting it back together it said "upon reassembly of the oil lines to filter, the top line on engine port goes to "A". I am wondering if the PO had the lines on wrong. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

I would say it is far more likely that someone crossed the lines than it is the service manual is wrong. But, it has happened.
It's simple, the pressure goes to the outside of the filter first, returns through the center. Plumb it that way. |

I found it in this manual that I downloaded here, Manual - Chassis Service 1050, 1204, 1210, 1211, 1810, 1811, 1572, 1772, 1872, & 2072, page 1-40. I just looked at the kohler service manual you referred to and it showed a diagram of the "A" line going to bottom port. Let me know if I am reading it wrong.

In looking at page 1-40, of the Chassis Service Manual, the depiction in Figure 12 is correct. Bottom and top are relative to which way you hold the Oil Filter Bracket. More accurately would be, the center port and the outer port. The outer port being A (pressure), and the center port is B (return).
