Would that make the list as a "Homemade" Speed up Pulley?

So I've been following along on this and thought that it might be time to figure out what decks I have. I have 4 Quietlines that came with 3 decks. The decks are all the same except that one has a smaller center pulley. Up until now I always thought that the one with the smaller center pulley had been upgraded to a "speedup pulley". Now I'm not so sure. So following Rolands advice;

Therefor I have three model 44 decks.

I thought that IH-126393-C1 pulley was the speed up pulley as referenced elsewhere and in a thread by Maxwelhse;

...which I thought was NLA??

The top of the center pulley measures 4-1/4" across the top.
You can see from the second picture that the center pulley (that I just removed) measures 5" across? I guess two of these decks could have originally been from model 1X8/9 tractors?

There is NO such thing as a "speed up pulley" as far as Cub Cadet is concerned. The referenced pulley is a stock pulley used in an "non intended" application to give the blades more RPM's in that particular application.

The model 44 deck has a 5" pulley as stock.

The model 44A deck has a 4-1/4" pulley as stock.

Yes! On my 1976 1200 it has a 44 deck with a 5" pulley. I bought another 1200 yesterday, a 1978 and it has a 44C deck with the 4 1/4" pulley. I was amazed at how much better the 44C deck mows, but the blades are sharper also.

There were three (3) versions of the 44 inch Mower Deck

* 44 for the 1x8/9 Series
* 44A for the Quietline Series
* 44C for the 82 Series.

If you mix the decks up with the tractor series, you can come up with different performances.

Bedell....

Interesting!!!!

I think that the deck on my older 1200 is a 44, but the tag is very faded/worn.
It is no doubt a 5" drive pulley. So what are the differences between the 44 and the 44A?

thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
