SLTX 1054 mower deck idler arm..how free should it be?
I thought it might be the PTO until I read in these forums about the idler spool. I checked mine out and the pivot arm was frozen solid. I had to use a socket and snipe to free it (after removing the spring) and have been pouring the penetrating oil to it and working it back and forth to the point I can now move it back and forth by hand fairly easily.
Question is how loose should it be? There's still a fair bit of resistance but should it flop around loosely or is the resistance normal? Txs

I say if it's bolted in place with no spring or belt, it should swing down on its own when you stand the deck on end. If it were mine, I would unbolt it, clean the rust off the pivot and inside of the arm, grease the pivot, reinstall and call it good.
