Default HDS 2165 Freewheels down hill

I have a steep yard and the GT pulls up it like a mule - pulling utility carts of logs, rocks, etc.. going down I tried bringing with me 6 bags of concrete.. halfway down it let loose and it got crazy but I survived. I tried some smaller loads with the same results. Now, just cutting the grass I lose it down the hill.
I use the brake and wheels lock up but I just skid - fast.
I do have Ag tires on it.
Should I just take this to a shop or is there some things I can check first?

On one hand you indicate the drive train "free wheels". On the other hand, you say the tires slide.

Which is it?

He said that they lock up and slide when he uses the brake.

It completely freewheels and gains tremendous speed - applying the brakes locks up the tires and leaves ruts... just forget the locking up of the tires.
I go down a hill at a slow rate of speed and partway down the the tractor runs loose (tires spinning at a high rate of speed as well not locked up)...

This usually happens on slopes far steeper than the Owner's Manual says are safe, no?

FWIW, I've experienced the same sensation on my former 2135 and present 2166, but when one's eyes are wide with terror, they don't at first notice the wheels aren't "freewheeling", but are locked and sliding.

My take is the short wheelbase with the driver's weight up high unloads the rear wheels and they just lose traction, whether the transaxle or the brakes are supplying the retarding.

To test this hypothesis, start down the problem hill with the idea of controlling your descent with the brake only.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
