Looks great! What size is the mower deck?

Whoops. Just saw (read), 60" Deck. I like the idea. Anything special to look for if I find an affordable 60" deck?

Are all the 60" decks drive-shaft driven? If so, guess not on my only Cub 1641.

The 60in Habans will only go under a super cub. Needs the longer wheelbase.
That said most big decks I looked at need a little attention. Just check for cracks
and abuse. I'm no Haban expert maybe Sam can steer you in the right direction

I didn't know if you were directing that at me or tankman.
As far as I'm concerned I'm only looking for an older style 60in to
restore for the 982. I'm done buying Cubs for awhile. Enough projects to last
a bit. Unless I can talk this guy out of this one:

Guys just gotta say thanks for all the cyclops links and info. I just got a 1782 that was from my past and I remember now why I loved using it. I've learned a lot from the Sam links and mods as well as haban stuff too. This thing is awesome to say the least. Will probably post my own thread soon but just wanted to say thanks for the info.

P.S. Terry that's a good lookin one eye you got there, glad I'm part of the club now too!

I thought I paid $30 each this spring from the dealer. On the cub cadet website it was messed up, you were correct Jay. Cause I went over to parts tree and they were $21 and change there.
Thought to myself, "self", glad I bought them when I did if they went up that much.

I splurged last time and bought the Cub Cadet blades with the hardened carbide edge... bout 39 or 40 each.. So far this season they are just as sharp as they were when I put them on last year.. Got about 35 hrs on them. Guess we will see how long they last! I really don't like sharpening blades!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
