Model and serial
Can someone help with deciphering the model and serial nos. from the tag on my 782D ? The data plate reads as follows -
Model -- 145882599 Serial -- 2050606U740972 I don't understand why the hood says 782D and the tag reads differently. I would also like to identify the year of mfg, etc. Thanks for any help given! Stan

Model number is on the hood. Serial number is the lower on, all numbers after the "U".
Year of MFG will be on the round sticker just behind the serial tag. |

Here ya go.
Model # 145 --- built in 1985 882 --- all GT diesel tractors were 882's on the tag (782D, 882 & 1512) 399 --- that is a color code (399 = red 782D/ 100 = yellow & white 882 or 1512) Ser# 205 --- Garden tractor 0606 --- That tells you it is a diesel 782D, 882 or a 1512 U740972 --- That is the serial number. The first machine built in 1985 was #737625 and the last was #747224 J-Mech is correct, the round tag to the right of the serial will tell you what month your machine was built. Nice smoker!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
