Mag 12 issue
I was mowing with the 1211 today and was all excited to get a pic of the hour meter when it rolled over to 1100, my excitement was replaced when it hit 1100 and died in the middle of the yard. I thought it was the magneto going bad but it fired right back up and I put the spark tester on it and the spark looks good. My next thought was fuel so I checked to make sure I had good flow from the tank which I do, I pulled the line off the carb and it appears fuel is flowing freely through the fuel pump and when I cranked it over it didn't really seem to be pumping all that much. I run the line directly from the tank to the carb and topped off the gas and was able to finish the yard but the tractor had a slight miss to it, not sure if it just wasn't getting enough fuel with gravity feed or what. What are your thoughts?

Does it still have a seat safety switch?

No, the only safety switch it has is on the brake.

If it does, I'm going to have to deduct a couple of man points

I am just not sure about these Mag K series. I have issues with mine on and off that I can't seem to duplicate. Random issues just like this.
I would lean towards a issue in the Mag, either the kill wire with a bare spot, or something just randomly grounded it. As soon as I have time, I replacing my Mag with a K series with points. At least I can get to them if there is an issue, and the coil and points on the old motors together don't total as much as one magneto costs..... and last longer. |

I had problems with a m12 in a grasshopper mower. Thought it was a mag and replaced it. It still ran awhile and died. Thought safety switch, nope turned out it was the fuel pump. Reason I finally found it was the oil level rose dramatically and smelled very gassy. Runs fine now! It would act like a bad magneto, run awhile die then wouldn't start till it cooled. My brother in law uses it weekly.

I wonder if you have a plugged up fuel shut off or bad fuel lines.

The lines are new and fuel flows freely from the tank, I just remembered that the engine from the 1282 had a brand new fuel pump on it so I'm going to give it a try and see if it helps.

I won't get rid of it. All the internals are the same in a K series.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
