Cast Kohler Info Needed/Wanted
Howdy folks. I have a question for the CI Kohler experts. I bought a Kohler cast iron motor from a guy and the the horsepower was unknown. It looks like my 12hp in my 1200 only newer looking. A K series anyhow. I looked it over to find a tag on it with info, but do not see one. Are there any telltale signs that would point to a particular hp? Is there a tag I should be able to find? I can post pics tomorrow. It's black, and unlike my 12hp it has a fuel pump. It did not come out of a cub, but some sort of atv the guy told me. So it does not have an oil pan like a cub, but has a cast bottom in place of an oil pan that is designed to bolt to a flat surface. I know pics will help and I will get them. Thanks for any info, TB

Ok guys, I just answered my own question doing more research, imagine that lol. I saw the stamp above the output shaft, it is a K341. Looks like a 16hp. Can't say I'm not happy about that......Thanks, TB

Thanks mech, That's still ok, I bought it for the spare parts, its all good. What would "make" it work in a cub other than a oil pan and maybe a crank? Were the blocks made for a cub (not counting the oil pan) alot different from any other block? Thanks TB

There are 3 different blocks. 2 will work in Cub Cadets. 1 wont. There are several different crankshafts. No idea how many.
There are different camshafts also. All will play, but some are better than others. |

Thanks mech. That is some good info. Couldn't pass up the cheap price on some spare motor parts, but its good to ask just in case!

Very few K341 parts will swap with the smaller engines.
Carb, crank, block, head, tins, flywheel, are all different. Engine tins may swap in the AQS series.... |

Yeah, you have some parts on there that will play. Starter will work for sure. Looks like the aluminum brace on it is still good. That's a pretty big deal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
