1872 issue
My brother has a 1872, having issue with it running for about half an hour then shuts off.
All engine fins are clean so it's not getting hot and new fuel and in line filter installed. When he tries to restart acts like it's running out of gas then dies. After it sets a while will run about half hour and same thing again. Any suggestions? I suggested maybe change fuel pump. I haven't looked at it due to us living several hours away. Any help or suggestions will be Greatly Appreciated!!! |

Sounds like it's time to replace the ignition module.

When it starts acting up on you, make sure it's still getting good spark. You may have some trash in the carb or bottom of tank.

Could it be a vacuum in the tank?

1872 issue
Thanks to everyone who offered advice! Just spoke with my brother and after checking out all safety switches, new fuel lines and filter and removing tank and cleaning it out and installing nrw valve in tank he is still having an issue. Tends to happen after it runs and gets warmed up. Sometimes it will start up right away and sometimes it wont. After it cools down over nite same thing so he is going to change ignition module and hope for the Best!!! Thanks Again Guys!!!

The 1872 I used to own did that. Replaced the ignition module, and it was fine afterwards.

While he has the cooling sheet metal off, he will see all the "chit" that has accumulated around the magneto coil and why it cooked itself.
Be sure to have him blow it out good. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
