Adhesive question
Earlier this summer I acquired a GT2554 with numerous issues that I have corrected and I down to my last one and need some ideas.
One of the issues was that the plastic hood was a mess (the p.o. had a meltdown). I wanted a good one on this tractor as I feel I have transformed the rest of it from a toad to a prince. Searched diligently and finally found a used hood albeit from a Super LT1554. It's nice and fits fine but of course the stickers on it are not the same as as a GT2554, in particular the model i.d. I want it correct and I was able to peel the stickers off the old hood by applying heat with a heat gun to the inside of the hood. I got them off in good shape, however the adhesive, which is like a gummy film, didn't come off with them evenly enough to do a nice job of re-applying them to the new hood. I'm thinking of contact cement as an adhesive to apply them but don't know about the durability or water resistance to this idea. Can anyone suggest a brand or method to do this, or any other ideas. Is anyone aware of some kind of double sided adhesive film that I could first apply to the back of the stickers, trim the edges, and then apply them to the hood. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Terry, thanks for the tape idea. Made me think, looked around and found that I had some leftover carpet tape. Couldn't tell if indoor or outdoor but I experimented on a piece of sticker that I peeled off of the new hood. It worked great as far as adhesion but it seemed a little thicker than what would be ideal. So I got into doing some "tape Research" and I came up with what I think I need is called "double sided film tape". It is thinner millage wise than carpet tape so I'll be getting some of that to experiment with. I'll let you know

I move decals from one tractor to another all the time. I use 3M spray adhesive to reattach it works great.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
