Trans fluid and oil
What engine oil and transmission fluid do you recommend for a 1989 Hydro 1811?
What is 'low ash' engine oil? This is the type recommended in the owner's manual. for above 32 deg, the lubrication table in the owner's manual says SAE 30; another section says 30W - are they the same? Transmission fluid: owner's manual says Cub Cadet Hydraulic transmission fluid - meets IH B-6 specifications. Is there an equal substitute easier to obtain? Thankyou!

This is what I use in all of mine:
Summer: SAE30 kohler brand Winter. 10w 30 kohler brand Trans: Hytran From IH dealer Many use Hytran equivalent from farm stores

I run Valvoline conventional in all my engines, for the rearend I use wix filters and hytrans from tsc. You will get a million different opinions on this subject but remember that as long as the fluids are full and changed regularly then it really doesn't matter what you use.

I run Case-IH low ash oil in my 2072 (its never had anything else) and in my 982. The rest of the Cadets get the same Exxon 30W diesel oil that everything else around here gets(unless its a vehicle or ATV). I don't know how easy it is to get low ash oil from anywhere else, but I have heard folks swear their Kohler was less prone to burn oil if that is what they used in it. It's a little more expensive, but not much.
I use Hy-tran from Case IH in the hydro---unless I am out (normally I am). Then I use Hy-Gard from John Deere. Want to know a secret--the same company (Sunstrand) built the hydro pumps for IH and Deere.
