DieselDoctor, I wanted to mention that if you were using this gt for mowing, fluid filled tires are going to imprint in your lawn more so when wet.
I think a reasonable amount of counter weight is perfectly fine on the rear of the tractor. I used to use, and still do, are cast iron weightlifter's weights. They are easy to make a support bracket for, and run a pipe up through the center hole of the weights, but a long threaded bolt works better. Four 25# weights, or 8- 10# weights....what you feel is needed. Also, this set up is quite easy to be removed. Combined with wheel weights, I'm thinking you might fair well handling the snow blower!

I use metal milk crate with about 100# of sand in sand bags and mount on the rear of Cub 102 by removing the ball hitch.
Mounting is easy by using 1 bolt in place of the ball hitch and a ratchet strap. It's nothing fancy, go's on and off in about 10 minutes, I also use my floor jack to keep the weight off the axle when not in use. I thought of using wheel weights and filling the tires, but I like my option better for the way I use my tractor. Beside cutting grass I use it with a Johnny bucket and snow throwing. |

My fluid filled tires don't imprint my yard at all. But I don't have any soft spots either. I like it weighted because the wheels never spin. I figure it tears up less with the weight.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I was able to locate a pair of iron wheel weights for 12" wheels that are 93 lbs. EACH according to the seller. I'll be picking them up this Sunday. Stay tuned for pictures. I also got my ExtremeWorks axle braces in the mail today, so I have a few more projects to do on the 1882 snow killer. I think I may just pull the axle apart, flush it and drill the drain holes too. I'll start a new post with pics so the newbies can see it happen. Thanks again guys! The combined knowledge here is awesome!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
