3240 Deck Lift Lever does not self center
I recently bought a 3240 that needs some TLC.
The deck lift valve was leaking and did not self center. I removed the valve, changed the Orings, lubed the mechanism and reinstalled. It no longer leaks, but the valve still does not self center. Any suggestions on how to get it to self center properly? |

Mine does the same thing. I didn't check mine out yet but I was thinking that maybe the plastic bushings that are installed on the lift link may be the problem. I use my deck lift a bunch when mowing and I have to center it each time I use it.

When I worked on the valve I inspected the bushings and they appeared to be in good condition. I did not see any wear or scoring and applied plenty of grease, but it still does not self center.

is the spring on the bottom that centers it?...I had one that the spool was a little snug and someone had put a bolt in one of the line clamps that was too long and it bottomed out in the hole and it pushed in the side of the housing and made the spool tight

The spring is on the bottom and looks OK to me.
Would a stiffer spring be helpful? If so, any suggestions on where to get a spring? The idea of bolts distorting the housing is not something I had considered. I did not measure the bolts, but they all seemed to be the same and looked OEM to me, but I will examine further if I need to do additional tear down. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
