Yup. I went with the SGK 6206J bearing from locateballbearings.com

They were $13 each plus shipping which is pretty reasonable for a SGK bearing. There was a timken 206WB that may have worked but I couldn't confirm the exact size. It's also the same bearing that they use on several brands of 4wd transfer cases on the output shaft from 1980-2010. Funny that it showed that it fit on my 2008 4wd GMC Envoy transfer case and now my 2182 tractor rear axles.

I'm not sure it really needed to be replaced. It was definitely more noisy than the other side. A slight grinding noise. I didn't feel any play, and whether it would ever fail, who knows. But since I have it all apart, and could get two of them for under $30. I figured may as well. From what I've read skf is a decent brand and are comparable to timken, but of course that's all a matter of opinion, and I couldn't find a timken that cross referenced 100%.

I installed two new bearings and seals. Plastic seals..grrr Went in nice and snug. No problems at all. For anyone planning on doing this, make sure you get a good quality pair of snap ring pliers. I had a cheap pair that got me through a few tough spots, but the rings on these bearings are big, and tough. Had to go buy a pair of channellock brand ones and they came out and in easy as could be. Best $25 I spent. Merry Christmas to me.

One of the cool things about rebuilding these old tractors is that you get to buy lots of cool tools, how can it get any better?

Never had problems with SKF. I don't care for those black plastic seals myself. You did yourself a big favor on the snap-ring pliers. I had some el-cheapos that I use for tiny ones now but the Channelock set I bought (along with a set of extra tips) about 20 years ago was money WELL spent. I thank myself every time I need them.

Just my 2 cents but I used CR seals on a tractor and had a leaker, replaced it with the Cub seal and no more problem.

What's a CR seal? The ones I ordered I assumed were oem cub parts, at least that's what it says on the package. Well, I'm not sure, since it says it's from MTD and I'm not sure on the exact relationship between cub and mtd.

CR is Chicago Rawhide. They are now SKF.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
