My Method for getting stubborn pulleys off spindles
Yesterday I ask for some information on removing the pulleys from the outside spindles off a 44c mower deck. I got 3 responses from J-mach, Deltacub, and darkminion17. All were good suggestions and I truly thank you for your input. But they were to naught.
So last night I went to bed with this on my mind and when I awoke this morning I had an idea. Straight to my shop even before coffee I went to work and I had them off in about an hour without any damage. Thought I would share this on a new thread for anyone having trouble removing pulleys it worked really well for me. First of all remove the top nut an air Impact wrench is suggested. IMG_20161205_130929496.jpg Then to the drill press and drill 2 - 1/4" holes one on each side of the pulley nut and tap the holes with a 1/4" tap IMG_20161205_131200040.jpgIMG_20161205_131332587.jpgIMG_20161205_131503039.jpg Then bolt your puller to the pulley and it will pop off, but it is best to use some good penetrating oil I used PB blaster and let them soak over night. IMG_20161205_132020948.jpg I don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but this method worked for me and I wanted to share it. Maybe it will help someone who is trying to rebuild spindles and save some$$$.

Not a bad idea, but I'd have had to have coffee FIRST.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
