It calls for "737-3023 Grease, CV Polyrex" on the Cub parts site. That said I use Mobil 1 grease, same stuff I use for every other thing I have that needs grease. They have grease fittings on the shaft and I just hit it a couple times a year.

I finely got the 1863 engine back together. Still need a gasket between the carb and air filter and I lost one of the screws that hold the wiring connector on but it's running. Somebody needs to take this mower apart and paint it.

The gasket that goes between the carb and the air filter housing came yesterday. This morning I went out and started putting the air filter on it and promptly dropped one of the screws down into the shroud. I tried to find and fish it out but it was hopeless so I pulled the engine back out and removed the shroud. Seems like if there's a way to screw something up I can find it. If there's anything positive about this I'm getting faster at pulling the engine.

Glad you got it running. I've dropped things and spent hours trying to get them out, most of the time I would have spent less time just biting the bullet and taking the path that I knew would get them out.

I got it all back together and moved out of the garage. When i moved it I found a spot of hydro fluid on the floor, looks it's coming from the left side axle housing. I need to find a thread on replacing the rear axle gaskets and seals to see whats involved but don't think I'll start that any time soon.
Thanks Guys, enjoy the holidays. Cannon |

Good, changing the axle seals is not that big a deal. Holler if you have any questions.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
