Sprocket Gear box removal 190-353-100 45" Snow Thrower
Does anyone know how to remove the sprocket gear box on a 190-353-100 PTO drive snow thrower ( rear gear box that the PTO shaft hooks to)?
Thanks for any help |

A sprocket drives a chain. A gear box has gears....... need to get your terms right.
Are you trying to remove the part of the thrower that attaches to the tractor? The hitch? Or are you trying to take the gear box off of the hitch assembly? Your question is incredibly vague. |

Should be straight forward how to remove it. Edit: the 190-364 manual has a better drawing, I think it's the same box in question

I have the blower off the tractor. two bolts that hold the gear box to to blower are out and I have been trying to work the gear box and shaft out of the the impeller. So if there is not another keeper ring or bolt holding this on the impeller then the shaft must be rusted to the impeller?

Either way, it removes the same way. Just pulls out of the impeller off the back side. Both impellers are the same, the gear box shaft is splined. If it won't come out, it's rusted stuck. There was a guy here recently that had one stuck in a 450. He managed to get it out with heat and a BFH. |

I have not had one apart but maybe a set screw on the top sprocket?
This would require splitting the gear case, so IDK. The drawing doesn't show one so it is stuck like Jmech said Sorry I'm not much help

Link to the Cub parts site, it shows how it comes apart. Click on select assembly then pick what you want to look at.

that back box can be a real ball buster to get off but before you beat on it to much split the font box and take augre out. other wise you can break the front box, i know i broke my front box the first time i did it. take the two roll pins out and then put wedges between box and the blower drive in so there is good tension and hit end of shaft with a big brass hammer or piece of brass rod and a big hammer. then with a little luck it will move.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
