100 won't run wide open
Rebuilt carb. Applied initial idle and main jet settings, dialed in from there. Idles good, can't jam it all the way open but can slowly, operates good. have not checked head gasket but had it running wide open and no leaks. I also checked ignition timing via light. Pretty cool tractor just like to get running good, thanks

Either it needs the timing adjusted, or the carb set more. Could be rich, could be lean. I can't tell you which because I'm not there.

My friend has a 1450 that did the same thing I believe you're describing. When we cleaned and rebuilt the carb we didn't pull out the main jet, only the needle. Afterwards, it would idle fine and run wide open only if we slowly opened the throttle. Go too quickly and it would stumble and die. Pulled the carb back apart and removed the main jet this time. Found most of the tiny holes around the jet were plugged. Cleaned the jet holes out and it ran perfect after that.

Adam, thanks for the great advice, that is exactly what I'm talking about. Going to check that first thing in the am. Bet it is the main jet

Got her running like a top. Main jet wasn't too bad. Went back and pulled points cover off and re verified my timing. Was off, got points to break at compression stroke and went from there. Purrs like a kitten and runs wide open no probs now. Thanks. This is a fun little tractor, an all original unmolested survivor, happy to add it to the collection

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
