Default LGT1054 not starting

I have an LGT1054 that has been increasingly hard to start. Plugs just over a year old. New starter. Only about 300 hours on tractor. New fuel filter. Over the summer it was harder to start each week. Cranks fine bit will not fire. Can smell gas so fuel seems to be pumping ok. Battery fine. Any ideas? New plug wires maybe?

What engine do you have? They used a couple different engines.

Does it have spark?? Since you did mention plug wires or is that just a swag?

Can you get it started by shooting carb cleaner into the intake??

Need either of these for any engine to start...

Sam.. hopefully its not a Kohler C ......

It is a Koehler Courage 26. I'll test the spark today. Was thinking bad spark plug wire because one is very loose. Does not snap at the end of the spark plug cleanly. Have to crimp the end of wire with pliers to make it stay.

While checking spark plug wires(haven't tested spark yet. Need a tester) I saw this wire hanging. Not sure where it goes. It is zip tied to a couple more wires but I can't see what it should connect to. IMG_0271.jpg

I think that wire is for an oil pressure sensor.

Plugs are both getting spark. One was a weak spark so replaced that one and put in new air filter. Charged the battery. Fired right up! Tried it again today and same thing. Had to give it four tries to start up.

All I can guess is that you have some sort of fuel issue. Next time it doesn't want to fire give it a little squirt of gas into the carb throat and see what happens. I use an old gear oil bottle with just a pin hole in the tip of the spout to prime engines that have been sitting for a while. The gas in the carbs tends to evaporate when they sit then they need to crank for a while to get gas into the carb before they will fire. I don't like the beat the starters so a little squirt and we are of to the races.
