Default Finally succumbed to oil leak

Have been putting this off for a while. When I put the 782 back together I put a new hydro cork seal in it. There doesnt seem to be any way to shim or torque the clamping pressure - put a new gasket on and it either seals or it doesnt. Mine didnt. So had a 'seep'.

Was motivated today for whatever reason, but didnt have a new gasket. Did have some Permatex gasket maker red goo. And the surface prep spray. Pulled it apart, cleaned it, put some on and now its back together. I dont think this stuff is supposed to go on top of a cork gasket, but its there now.

Have never used this stuff before, so hoping its not a bigger mess than when I started. Time will tell...

btw - I had the brake link on the filter side (pic 1). I didnt want to take the filter off and it was a PITA to split the rear because it was hard to get the link off with the filter on.

I flipped it to the outside when going back together (second pic). Maybe how it was supposed to be all along...

Was able to split it with minimal hydro fluid loss by tilting it on its rear before pulling the pump off.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
