Default Cub diesel straight pipe

Who all has Cub diesels with a straight pipe? My muffler rattles pretty bad at lower rpms. Wondering how noisy they are with a straight pipe. I plan to mow with mine.

Lots of guys run them straight. Get on YouTube and search diesel cub cadet. I'm sure you'll find a video..... which will really prove nothing, because it's different than sitting in the seat. I'd suggest taking the muffler off and running it. If you don't like the noise, you can buy a new muffler. If you can afford it......

I have run my 782D without the muffler and it is louder but not unbearable. It makes a great deal of difference as to which way the stack is pointed, horizontal as from the factory, or vertical as must of us run them. Pointed straight up with a tip out forward seems the easiest on the ears.

I have a 782D with a straight pipe buried in the barn and when I get around to working on it that is the first thing that is coming off. It is way too loud with it in my opinion. Here is the cheapest I've found.

http://www.yachtsupplydepot.com/engi...rod_48499.html

I did pick up 2 new ones with all the shields and chrome tip cheap off of Ebay a few years ago.

My 882 has the muffler pointing up and that is another thing I will not do again.

on a diesel , if you start with the original size pipe then enlarge it after 6" to double its size apx 2.5" it will quiet it down some as the gas will expand and cool and loose pressure which is sound . but do not go too big as it can amplify the noise .. and cut the tip on a slash or curve it and slash it , the slash also modifys the pressure wave ... a simple 18" resonator ( expansion tube ) on the pipe with a 6"long end will often quiet it down some . but a air cooled engine the motor makes more noise than the exhaust as the cylinder doesn't have the water to absorb/block the ignition noise .

unfortunately it will not sound like a big diesel

The Kubota's are water cooled there stimpy....
But they are dry sleeved.

It won't ever sound like a big diesel.... because it isn't. Can't really compare a 600CC, indirect injected, 3 cyl motor to a 500(+) CI 6 cylinder direct injected engine....

it should be quieter if its a IDI motor , but still they are dang loud mechanically ..

Whatever you think.....
Big fat exhaust stacks make them sound like a fart can in my opinion. Large enough to gain flow, and that's it as far as I'm concerned.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
