I got the body all put back together last night. I had to repair some cracks in the nose, I've seen people say to use a locktite product for that. I was at my local hardware store looking for it but couldn't find it. I found a devcon plastic weld though and decided to give that a shot. It dries the same color as the plastic which is cool. And it seems really strong. Time will tell if it holds but I tested with glueing the headlight studs back on that were broken and the next day I pulled and tugged and tried to twist them and they didn't budge. Seems like a good bond to me.
Here's a pic of it all back together and with my dirty finger prints everywhere. Some warm day I'll give it a bath. IMG_2582.jpg I still need to look at the brake pedal stiffness and the deck bearing noise. I looked up spindle assemblies for this deck... ouch! |

I figured as much, I saw parts are available to rebuild them. I'm just hoping when I get them apart it's as simple as replacing and re-packing bearings, and not more internal damage. I used to have a mid 80's Bolens Eliminator that chewed up a spindle and bushing when a bearing went bad and melted down and I had a hard time finding a replacement for all of that. I found the parts and repaired it, and the next time I mowed another one melted down. I decided to part with it after at that.

Imagine this, I assumed the bearings needed replaced before I tore it apart so like a boss I ordered 6 new bearings and they came today. I took the deck off and began disassembly and found that the idler tension pulley is locked up. The bearings all feel good and loose and smooth.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
