So did you get it fixed? Did you open your engine up? Did it have that baffle? If not did you install one and did that fix the problem? Thanks for the info on the baffle, I've never been inside a Vanguard so I learned something.

That's the reason I posted the information I was given. No one seemed to know and I sure didn't. No I didn't Pull it apart. I don't think it's used on this model...I don't know why some have it and some don't. The engine runs great but I did find a problem. After cleaning all the goo off of the engine I found the front crank seal pushed out of the front cover about 1/4". I installed a new seal and I still have little oil drops coming up the breather tube occasionally.
I just bought the long rubber vent tube that points to carb and let it suck those drops..... "upper cylinder lubrication" and some extra carbon deposits of course.

You would have thought a 25 year heavy equipment mechanic could solve a small engine issue without too much help.

Blown out front seal usually means too much crankcase pressure. Back to blown head gasket.

Then why didn't you know where the baffle went in the first place. It certainly would have saved a lot of questions from the start and I wouldn't have had to go to another forum. Just to speak my piece " you seem to give a lot of wise-acre remarks for being a moderator". If this gets me kicked off the forum so be it. Members of other forums don't reply with those kind of remarks. I thought that's what forums were for, to ask questions,sort out problems and share Information which I did when I found the info on the baffle. Maybe I've been mistaken.
By the way it's not a blown head gasket.

After installing a new front seal the blow out of the breather is very minimal.
It was the mist that made the mess. I just used the bent rubber tube and let the air cleaner suck the mist. Like I said before some of the Vanguards have a little housing that goes inside the air cleaner and routes the mist from the vent tube into the carb. Anyway it is running great and I am satisfied.

Hope that fixed it. The Vanguards are sensitive to vacuum leaks. Oil fill and dip stick seals tend to make them slobber, I guess a crank seal could do the same.
