Reinstalling the engine on a CC 2166
Hello,
New guy to this forum. I have just replaced the stator on a CC 2166 and reinstalling the Kohler CH16S engine. As I reattached the driveshaft, the engine is turning over and I was unable to tighten the 4 bolts. It was the end of the day and I stopped working on it, but am wondering for the morning- Is there a standard method for locking the driveshaft in place? Or locking up the crankshaft? Thank you in advance! |

Welcome to OCC!
I have used a segment of clean 1/4" starter rope carefully threaded into the cylinder via spark plug hole to "lock" the engine. Always works! You need a piece about 3' long. REMEMBER TO LEAVE A SEGMENT OF ROPE STICKING OUT...ABOUT 10". Do NOT allow it to disappear into the cylinder or you are not going to be happy! Good luck

Thank you both for the replies. I'll probably go with the pipe wrench to start with. Seems there would be a key hole somewhere in the design where you could lock the shaft with a rod or such. Thanks again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
