WIIW? Cub Cadet Original, Ser. No. 35779

I am assisting a local man with the sale of three Cub Cadet tractors: an Original, a 70 or 100, and a 124 with 3 pt. hitch. I will post separate threads to inquire about the value of each. This is the first thread. We are in northeast Georgia near Clarkesville.

The first is a Cub Cadet Original. Serial No. 35779. Tires are dry rotted. Rust, especially on hood. Specks of rust in tank, but not too bad. I put a hot battery on it and was able to turn it over, and also got a weak spark using an in-line spark tester. I believe the carb would have to be removed and cleaned to have any hope of it running. Might also need condenser and/or new points.

Question: Do you think it would be worth the effort to get it running so that the gear box can be evaluated, or simply negotiate as "as is" sale?

No options, bent lift handle, regulator not mounted right. Condition it's in, I'd say $150. Maybe $200. If you get it running.... $200-$250, maybe. But that's about it. The trans on these is pretty durable, it far more likely there is an issue with the clutch than the trans. I'd sell it as is. It's not worth the time and $$ to make it a runner for no more than you'll get.

Cubs for sale in Georgia? I like that. Are you going to sell them on Craig's List, FB or some other way? Do you have any pics of the other machines?

I may meet a guy from SC in Maysville, GA this Sunday to look at a 70. He is bringing me some goodies and he may be interested in your other machines.

I plan to list them on this forum and on craigslist. I took a closer look at the 70? 100? today. I found some numbers on the tag on the engine: A72917 463100. And the number stamped on the right side of the transmission below the frame rail looks like "L2". Can you tell from this info id it is a 70 or a 100?

I think that number is a 46310D, not a 0.... If so there was a spec number 46310D that was made for IH, and it was a K241. It's likely it is a 100.

The "L2" on the side of the trans is likely a casting number..... it's not a SN#. Those can be found in a couple places on the 70/100's. Look for a stamped tag on the top of the rear end casting. Or it could be stamped into the right side like the "O", but in a little different place. Would need that number to confirm. Could just be a 70 with a replacement motor..... after that many years, who knows for sure.
