I have located a cub cadet 800 after a link was left to decatur il.craigslist on my wanted addthe 800 is said to be all there except for the seat and deck the hood and dash and side panels have been painted add says 575 $ there is pics on the add but my question is that a fair price? I want to pull the trigger on it but its about 3 hours from me and I was wondering what some fellow members input would be . I know 800s are hard to come by but I dont know how often they come up for sale and arent some parts specific to the 800? Thank you for the info.

I have seen the ad for this 800. The tractor is in terrible shape. The only unique thing with an 800 is the engine. Other than that, it is an ordinary QuietLine...same as a 1000 or 1200. The price seems high but it is what you are willing to spend that counts.

Check to make sure the hard to find parts are still there. It doesn't show them in the pics. The muffler, muffler box, air cleaner, and starter are very hard to find if they are missing and what makes an 800. The starter might be a replacement but that isn't to big a deal though.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
