Ok, no problem. I took the 1864 out for a quick mow of about a half acre, and it's not leaking anymore. I think I just didn't have the cover torqued down evenly. I have an assorted nitrile o ring kit and I found two that fit the governor shaft and hole and I slid those down on top of the seal under the washer on top to take up the space in there just to test and it doesn't leak at all now. So I think if I order the governor parts pictured that should fix it right up the right way. The o rings should be a stop gap to make it usable until the right parts come.

I'd leave it alone if it's working as it should. Question, did you readjust the governor after having it apart? Procedure is in the service manual.

Oh yes. I have had engines apart and rebuilt them. I'm familiar with adjusting the governor. But I've never worked with a Kohler twin. It runs like a top. No more oil in the air breather area either. I was still running the old air filter that didn't look to bad but I realized it was oil soaked. That probably was adding to the oil inside the air filter problem by causing extra vacuum in there and pulling oil up the tube.

Well not completely... I went to start it up to move it into the garage before a rain shower and it wouldn't start, so I started checking things. Ether into the carb made it kick but not start. Checked the plugs for spark, checked the oil to make sure oil sentry didn't cut it off. So I scratched my bald head and thought for a moment and realized it was out of gas (gas light doesn't work I guess).

It's the little things...
